Cambridge Music Project was established to provide
tuition and training in all aspects of the music industry to young
people aged 14 to 18 who are not in education, employment or training,
or who have challenging behaviour. There will be twenty places,
offering six hours tuition a week, available to young people living
within Cambridgeshire.
The initial foundation course will include modules
in music technology, music composition and arrangement, studio and
recording techniques, live sound and P.A. skills, starting and running
a record label, product and artist promotion, artist management,
tour management, and musical instrument maintenance and repair.
As a result, they will learn skills and apply them by running revenue-creating
projects.
These will include running a music instrument reconditioning
and repair service and establishing a record label, which will involve
producing, marketing and promoting their product.
There will also be opportunities to help organise
workshops and live music events, which will include planning, promotion
and publicity and live sound engineering. Community workshops will
be held in areas such as African percussion, recording and performance
techniques and DJ skills.

Projects will be devised and run by the young people,
assisted by staff - giving the students their first experience of
working within the music industry. Learning skills and putting them
into practice and working as a team with their peers, the young
people's sense of commitment, professionalism and self-esteem will
grow. The skills and experience gained will be invaluable to those
wishing to pursue careers in the music industry.
Cambridge Music Project aims to become a sustainable
social enteprise. It will be staffed by two full-time instructors,
with experience of employment within the music industry and working
with young people with challenging behaviour. Professionals working
in the music industry will run extra workshops and classes, on a
voluntary basis. All staff will be enhanced C.R.B. checked.
